Find out the BEST way to gain confidence in ANY situation in life

Confidence. Ah. Wouldn’t we all love to be confident? Everyone walking around on confident clouds, unafraid to say or do whatever they want, unbothered by other people’s opinions and judgements….

But we’re not. Otherwise you wouldn’t be reading this article – but I’m glad you are!

Let me start off by saying the best thing to know about confidence is that it’s a skill. Now you might be thinking “okay and?”

Well, since confidence is a skill, this means it can be learned, developed, and improved. Which is great news because it means you don’t have to be stuck with low confidence forever and a lack of confidence will not hold you back from life anymore!

“Confidence is a skill....it can be learned”

There tends to be a mistaken preconception about the direction of confidence. People tend to think you have to be confident to take risks in life.

But it’s actually the other way around.

By taking risks in life, challenging yourself, and encountering new situations, you gain confidence. The more you do this, the more confident you become.

How can I start becoming more confident?

Put yourself out of your comfort zone.

One of the best ways to gain confidence is to put yourself outside of your comfort zone. I know this is hard, and no-one wants to do this. I get it, your comfort zone is nice and warm and cosy and just for you. You can stay in your comfort zone, but it will be at the expense of your personal growth.

You cannot grow from within your comfort zone.

What does ‘putting myself out of my comfort zone’ look like?

Stepping out of your comfort zone means doing things that scare you, that make you nervous, that would feel “uncomfy” to you.

{Disclaimer alert: This is does not mean you should do things that would cause you considerable distress or actions that betray your values.}

The goal is to gradually push yourself out of your comfort zone to try new things, go to new places, speak to new people, try new hobbies etc.

Only push yourself to do things that enhance your journey of personal development.

The most important question to ask yourself before doing something is “Is this helping me get closer to the best version of myself that I can be?”

If the answer is yes, go for it! But if the answer is no, it’s probably best not to do it.

Practical examples to step out of your comfort one:

· Instead of going to the same coffee shop, try a new one

· Sit with a different group of people at lunch

· Ask a question to the barista or cashier (e.g. Has it been busy today? Have you got a long shift?)

· Volunteer for a local charity (I’ve done this before and it was a fantastic experience)

· Try a taster class for a new hobby (dance, art, writing, etc.)

· Go to a public seminar

· Say good morning to your neighbour

· Make changes to your daily routine (e.g. walk to work, read instead of TV, listen to a new genre of music, cook a meal from scratch, etc.)

· Learn a new language

One of the most prominent barriers to gaining confidence and living the life you desire is fear.

Fear holds you back from life.

The reason that you’re not already doing the things I mentioned in the list above is because of fear. Fear of judgement, fear of embarrassment, fear of other people’s opinions, fear of looking bad/awkward/weak etc.

The best way to overcome this fear and break down this barrier is to simply do the thing you’re scared of. Chances are, once you do it, you’ll realise that it wasn’t so bad after all. And the more you do things that scare you, the less fear you’ll feel and the more confident you’ll become.

All the best,

Danielle
